Security operatives from the Department of State Security (DSS) and the Nigeria Police Force took over the Lagos State House of Assembly on Monday morning, sealing the offices of Speaker Mojisola Meranda, her deputy, and the clerk.

Armed officers were stationed at key locations within the Assembly complex in Alausa, Ikeja, and conducted searches as part of their operation.

The security intervention comes amid the ongoing leadership tussle following the impeachment of former Speaker Mudashiru Obasa on January 13, 2025.

Obasa, who was removed while on an official trip to the United States, has rejected his impeachment, claiming that the process violated constitutional procedures.

Obasa, who has held the Speaker’s position since 2015, enjoys the support of 32 out of 40 lawmakers in the House.

Shortly after his removal, the Assembly elected Mojisola Meranda, the former Deputy Speaker, as his replacement. However, Obasa has since challenged his impeachment in court, seeking an expedited ruling to prevent disruptions to legislative activities.
