The Department of State Services (DSS) has denied allegations of conducting a raid at the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) headquarters in Abuja, sparking reaction from netizens who expressed disbelief and criticism.
Reports surfaced of a late-night security operation at the Labour House in Abuja’s Central Business District.
According to Benson Upah, spokesperson for the NLC, security personnel purportedly searched for materials linked to the #EndBadGovernance protests, citing concerns over potential sedition he stated that the raid on the NLC premises began around 8:30 pm, involving the apprehension of the on-duty guard and forced entry to the second floor, ransacked the bookshop on the second floor, carting away hundreds of books and other publications.
In response, the DSS stated its X platform, denying any involvement in the alleged raid.” Please kindly note that the Service (DSS) did not carry out any operation at the NLC office in Abuja.” the statement reads.
Since August 1, Nigerians have taken to the streets to protest against skyrocketing inflation and the country’s worsening economic conditions. In some areas, the protests escalated into violence, with incidents of looting and property damage reported.
Online reactions were swift, with one user, commenting, “Remember, once they deny it, it’s usually true!” Another user remarked, “If you can send a team to attack a tailor over a missed deadline, there’s nothing you won’t do.”
A third user added, “By denying it, you pretty much confirmed it. Everything you deny always turns out to be true. The plight of the common man!”
