It appears another crisis is looming in the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the build-up to its presidential primary.
The National Chairman of the ruling party Abdullahi Adamu has reportedly announced Senate President, Ahmad Lawan as the consensus presidential candidate.
According to The Nation, Adamu made the announcement at the meeting of the APC National Working Committee (NWC) on Monday in Abuja. He reportedly said he arrived at the conclusion after consulting with President Muhammadu Buhari.
However, it was said that some NWC members kicked against the decision, insisting that other aspirants must be given a level playing ground to compete for the presidential ticket.
Adamu’s pronouncement comes days after Northern APC governors backed a power shift to the South for the sake of national interest.
On Monday afternoon, the APC National Youth Leader, Dayo Israel advised southern aspirants to harmonise in order to ensure that one of them emerge as the party’s presidential flagbearer.
“The Southern Aspirants better get their acts together and leverage on the commitment of the Northern Governors proposing to zone Presidency to the South. A word is enough for the wise. Ewu MBE loko Longe,” he wrote in a tweet.
