BlackBox Nigeria gathered that the fire started small from a kerosene stove being used for cooking by a woman called ‘Iya Dada’. She was left perplexed when the stove caught fire forcing her to fling it in front of the house. Unfortunately, a passerby was conveying petrol in a jerrycan at the time.

The fire quickly degenerated into a huge inferno razing down houses mostly made of wooden structures and corrugated iron. BlackBox Nigeria further learnt that the fire was further fuelled by the large quantity of petroleum being stored in some of the houses for commercial purposes.
