Following the incident at the Greater Lagos 2024 concert, where Damini Ogulu popularly known as Burna Boy kicked a fan who had jumped on stage, the Nigerian artist has provided an explanation for his actions.
In a statement posted on his official Instagram page, he explained:
“It was a free show. I was supposed to do 10 minutes and did almost an hour. Everybody knows my rule about getting on stage and startling me when I’m performing. I had an amazing time with Lagos State last night. Don’t jump on my stage like that! I got PTSD. I love you all. Happy new year.”
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a mental health condition that can develop after an individual experiences or witnesses a life-threatening event, such as combat, natural disasters, or serious accidents. Symptoms include flashbacks, nightmares, severe anxiety, and uncontrollable thoughts about the event
This incident is not the first of its kind involving Burna Boy. In January 2023, during a concert in Lagos, he similarly kicked a fan who attempted to climb onto the stage.
The recent event has sparked discussions among fans and the public about concert safety and the appropriate ways for artists to handle unexpected interactions during live performances.
