Domestic Violence: 55 men report cases of their wives battering them in Lagos

The issue of Domestic violence has continued to take centre stage in Rights Abuse conversations

This report would shock many as the general believe when it comes to domestic violence is that it is simply one sided. Many are of the opinion that women are the only victims on the receiving end of this but this is absolutely far from the truth and a fresh report has proven it.
According to the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Lagos State, Adeniji Kazeem, more men has been coming forward to report cases of their battery by their spouses.
Adeniji Kazeem who is also the chairman, Domestic and Sexual Violence Response Team, DSVRT recently made the revelation at a press briefing while disclosing that 55 men has reported cases of domestic violence against them this year alone. This is against 14 that was reported in 2016.
BlackBox Nigeria gathered that although domestic violence has women affected the most, the swinging tide against men is also alarming and this is giving the government a concern.
Adeniji Kazeem further disclosed that between January and September 2017, a total of 852 cases of domestic violence and related cases were recorded in Lagos State, saying that out of the total number, there were 564 domestic violence cases, 60 defilement cases, 30 rape cases, 11 attempted rape, 123 child neglect and abuse cases, and 84 other cases.
