Former Kogi West Senator, Dino Melaye, has officially launched his legal career, making his first appearance in court as a lawyer on Friday, July 19, 2025, before Justice Emeka Nwite at the Federal High Court in Abuja.

Clad in the traditional black gown and white wig, Melaye stepped into Court 8 with poise and purpose, appearing as counsel barely two weeks after being called to the Nigerian Bar.

“Senator Dino Melaye at the Federal High Court Abuja today. Appeared before Justice Emeka Nwite of Court 8,” he wrote in a brief update shared via his verified Facebook page.

The flamboyant politician, who represented Kogi West in the 8th National Assembly, was among over 5,000 new wigs called to the Bar in early July following his law studies at Baze University, Abuja.

Melaye’s courtroom debut signals a striking new chapter in his public life transitioning from fiery politician and media personality to practicing legal professional.

Known for his vocal presence in the Senate and political activism, he now joins the ranks of legal practitioners, expanding his influence into Nigeria’s judiciary space.

While Melaye remains a prominent figure in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), it remains unclear whether his entry into the legal field will steer him away from active politics or add a new dimension to his public service career.

His courtroom appearance has since generated buzz on social media, with many Nigerians expressing both surprise and admiration for the former senator’s professional pivot.
