As A Developing Country, Nigeria Needs To Invest Massively In Education -Folorunsho Alakija

Foremost Nigerian entrepreneur, Mrs Folorunsho Alakija has advised Nigerian Government on the need to invest massively in the Educational sector as it is the only tool that helps a developing country boosts its economy.

She made this known in her speech at the Convocation Ceremony of Lagos State University where she was awarded an Honourary Degree.

The University Management on the approval of its Senate had penned herself, Sir Kessington Adebukunola Adebutu and Alhaji Aliko Dangote for Honourary Degree Awards after they were found worthy. The absence of Dangote however prompted the Management to transfer his award till next convocation. 

She stated that all States, including the Federal Government need to invest substantially in education in order to develop its growing economy.

She noted that all developed countries have higher rates of literacy which help boost their economies. So, if Nigeria is to be properly industrilised, it needs to increase its level of literacy which is currently low.

She commended the efforts of the LASU Visitor, Governor Akinwunmi Ambode who have since beginning of 2016 dedicated special funds for infrastructural development in the school.

She also stated that education has over the years raise people in technological advancement and also improved their distribution of income.

She further added that since education leads to improvement of lives and individuals in the society, Nigeria as a country needs to join commity of nations who have been investing massively in the sector.

She appreciated the University Management for finding her and Chief Adebutu worthy to be honoured as Honouris Causa.
