The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has ruled out the possibility of calling of its ongoing industrial action.
The striking lecturers insist they won’t resume back to classes despite the payment of minimum wage arrears by the Federal Government, according to The PUNCH.
The ASUU branch in the University of Lagos, in a recent circular, stated that the union has resolved to continue with the strike until the Federal Government fully meets its demands which include “the conclusion of the renegotiation of the 2009 FGN/ASUU Agreement, abrogation of the fraudulent and corrupt IPPIS scheme and the deployment of UTAS, payment of promotion arrears, the proliferation of State Universities and governance issues amongst others.”
It would be recalled that the union had extended the industrial action which commenced in February by another three months, as thousands of students are currently at home with their academic aspirations hanging in the balance.
Former Minister of State for Education, Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba, had also tendered a public apology to Nigerian students over the lingering strike, revealing that two of his children were also affected by the industrial action.
