Delta State Opens Foodbank To Cushion Effect Of COVID19 Lockdown

 

 

Delta State Government on Tuesday announced the launch of a Foodbank programme that will ensure distribution of food items to low income earners in and around the State.

BlackBox Nigeria gathered that the Governor Ifeanyi Okowa-led administration initiated the food distribution programme to assist the needy and people who have been unable to stock up their homes in preparation for the lockdown as the State tries to contain and control the spread of coronavirus which has been spreading across the country in the past few weeks.

While briefing the press, Commissioner for Information, Mr Charles Aniagwu disclosed that a Committee has been set up in all Local government areas in the State. He stated that the Committees were appointed by the State Central Committee on Managing and Containing Coronavirus which is headed by the Governor, Dr Okowa.

Aniagwu said, “A food bank has been set up and committees will be set up at the local government, ward and unit levels to ensure that the food gets to the needy and people who cannot make purchase during the lockdown.”

BBN360 further gathered that the Delta State Central Committee on Managing & Containing  Coronavirus had before now set out directives which includes a stay at home order, set up an Isolation centre with needed medical equipment. The State’s index case was reported on Tuesday and was immediately taken to the isolation centre for treatment.

As at 09:30pm 7th April, 254 confirmed cases have been recorded by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control. While 44 patients have been discharged, 6 patients have died of COVID19. Below is an update on confirmed cases per State.
