Delta State University, Abraka, has rusticated a 200 level student of the Department of Microbiology (Biotechnology Unit), Ezi Ugoma, for four semesters over what the institution described as a breach of matriculation oath and act of gross misconduct.
In a disciplinary letter signed by the Principal Assistant Registrar (Students), Ughwumiakpor A., on behalf of the Deputy Registrar (Students), the university said the action followed the consideration of the report of the Students Disciplinary Committee (SDC).
According to the letter, the committee found Ugoma guilty of gross misconduct and violation of her matriculation oath for inappropriate filming with a mobile handset, the scene of a dying student at the University Health Centre on TikTok.
The letter stated that after due consideration of the committee’s report, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Samuel O. Aghal, approved the recommendation that Ugoma be rusticated for four semesters with effect from the 2025/2026 academic session.She is to resume her studies in the 2027/2028 academic session.
“Accordingly, you are hereby rusticated for four (4) semesters with effect from the 2025/2026 academic session and to resume studies with effect from the 2027/2028 academic session,” the letter read in part.
The university added that copies of the letter had been forwarded to her sponsors and other relevant authorities of the institution for their information and further necessary action.
