Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to declare a state of emergency across Nigeria following a recent surge in schools kidnappings and insecurity.
The petition, issued on Thursday, highlights the abduction of students from multiple institutions in recent days and describes the situation as a “nationwide collapse of security architecture.”
Atiku argued that the federal government’s current response has been “piecemeal and reactive,” and warned that without decisive action, the violence gripping the country will deepen.
“We cannot wait for another tragedy to unfold before we act,” he said in a statement released by his media office.
The call comes amid mounting frustration from the public over the persistence of mass kidnappings, banditry, and terror attacks, which are eroding confidence in state capacities.
