D’Bard Creative Media set to tackle social vices with stage adaptation of ‘Romeo and Juliet’

D’Bard Creative Media in collaboration with the D’Theatrepreneurs of the Centre for Entrepreneurship and Skills Acquisition (CESA), Lagos State Polytechnic, Ikorodu Main Campus is set to propagate the campaign against drug abuse and cultism among youths through a stage adaptation of Shakespeare’s ‘Romeo and Juliet’.

In a statement released by the Lead Creative of D’Bard Creative Media, a creativepreneur hub that engages in creative performances as a tool to entertain, enlighten, and rejuvenate the society, Waliu Adeyeri announced that “D’Bard Creative Media in conjunction with the D’Theatrepreneurs, CESA, Lagos State Polytechnic is set to stage the “Adaptation of Romeo and Juliet” on Valentine’s day, February 14, 2022, at the 700-Seater Hall, Lagos State Polytechnic, Ikorodu Campus by 2 p.m.”

Adeyeri, who adapted the play, added that the talented D’Theatrepreneurs crew of the Centre for Entrepreneurship and Skills Acquisition Department of the Lagos State Polytechnic, Ikorodu Campus would be enacting the play.

While giving an insights on the play, he said the play is a contemporary adaptation of the classic Romeo and Juliet story by William Shakespeare which captures present day happenings in our society especially the higher institution, which served as the locale of the play.

“The play captures the story of two lovers from different cult groups who got entangled in a love web, Juliana’s (Juliet) brother is the second-in-command in the Mamba Cult, while Roland belongs to the Canine group. Their relationship grow rapidly until circumstances rise against them,” he narrated.

“Having thought of how best we could use what we have to contribute to the growth and development of our immediate community, this project comes to mind, staging an entertaining drama that would aid the propagation of the campaign against some social ills that have taken over our generation.

“At DBard Creative Media, we have chosen to stage the play on Valentine’s day to suit the theme of the play and because we believe with genuine love for oneself. Our youth won’t take drugs that would harm their mental health, and with genuine love for our fellow humans, we will shun all forms of social vices.”

Adeyeri also appreciated “the school management, under the auspices of Dr Oluremi Nurudeen Olaleye, the Rector, Lagos State Polytechnic, and the Director, Centre for Entrepreneurship and Skills Acquisition, Dr Biyi Oyetade, for providing us an avenue to propagate this message. We look forward to getting more supports for the programme as we have decided to admit all interested students for free to see the performance.”

The organiser also appreciated the brands that have supported and showed interest in the project, Fanafillit Integrated Concepts, the Impact Newspaper, Ajasa Info, Vision Savings, 2entertainment, and Abo Communication.

“Our crew and actors are getting ready to thrill everyone and touch lives as we aim to rekindle the dwindling ember of love in our society,” he said.
