Nigerian born UFC champion, Isreal Adesanya is back home in Africa’s most populated nation, BlackBox Nigeria has gathered.

His return to his father’s country is coming days after his unsuccessful attempt to regain his Middleweight title against Dricus du Plesis.

The 35-year-old fighter arrived with his parents, and their homecoming was celebrated with traditional drums and music, as noted by the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM).

During his visit, Adesanya also traveled to Esa Oke, a town in the Ijesa/Ife region of Osun State, further deepening his connection to his roots.

Adesanya’s visit follows his defeat in the UFC middleweight title bout on Sunday, where he was submitted by Du Plessis with a rear-naked choke in the fourth round. This loss came after Adesanya’s previous defeat to Sean Strickland, who lost the title to Du Plessis.

Adesanya is visiting Lagos for the second time in five years. He was born in Lagos and moved to New Zealand with his family shortly after early childhood.
