It appears the decision of the Oyo State deputy governor, Rauf Olaniyan to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) will hold some severe consequences for the politician.
In what may be considered a sequel to his defection move, the Oyo State House of Assembly has began the process of impeaching the deputy governor following a 5-point petition and notice of allegation levelled against him.
The petition, addressed to the Speaker, Adebo Ogundoyin, was signed by 24 lawmakers, and read on the floor of the House on Wednesday.
Allegations raised against Olaniyan include gross misconduct, abuse of abuse, financial recklessness, abandonment of office/official duty, insubordination and other offences.
Reacting to the petition, the Speaker was said to have directed the Clerk of the House, Yetunde Awe to write the deputy governor mandating him to respond to the allegations within seven days.
Report has it that Olaniyan had a frosty relationship with his principal, Governor Seyi Makinde since they assumed office in 2019. The reported cold war also manifested when the governor announced the Chairman of Oyo State Housing Corporation, Bayo Lawal, as his running mate for the 2023 election.
