Award winning Afrobeats star Davido has reportedly lost a high-value bet placed on the Super Eagles following their Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 semi-final defeat to Morocco.
Hours before Nigeria’s important match against the host nation in Rabat on Wednesday, the DMW Records boss shared a screenshot of his $50,000 (about ₦71 million) betting slip on social media, publicly backing the Super Eagles to beat Morocco and reach the final stage of the tournament. He pledged that if Nigeria advanced, he would double his stake.
However, the match ended in a goalless draw after extra time, and Morocco clinched victory 4–2 on penalties, eliminating Nigeria from title contention.
As a result, Davido’s bold wager did not pay off this time following his earlier win and the singer lost the $50,000 stake he placed on the Super Eagles.
Reports suggest that, had the bet been successful, Davido stood to win about $348,000 (around ₦495 million). His confident social media post ahead of the game, “Nigeria to make the finals and I’ll double my stake on my slip” reflected his strong support for the national team.
The Super Eagles’ run in the tournament ended in disappointment for Nigerian fans after a spirited but scoreless 120 minutes, followed by a penalty shootout loss that saw Moroccan goalkeeper Yassine Bounou emerge as a key figure.
Nigeria will now play in the third-place playoff, while Morocco advances to face Senegal in the final.
