Award winning Afrobeats star Davido has revealed plans to focus more on African sounds in his future projects, signalling a shift in his musical direction as the global appeal of the genre continues to grow.

The singer made the disclosure in a recent interview, where he spoke about his evolving artistry and the need to stay rooted in African identity despite increasing international collaborations.

Local sounds like Juju and highlife had influenced Davido’s music in the past. His return to African ignites anticipation in the minds of fans on the new project he’s working on.

He emphasised that while global partnerships remain important, his priority is to further promote African music on the world stage.

Davido noted that the perception of African music has changed significantly in recent years, with Afrobeats gaining mainstream acceptance globally.

He credited artists and creatives for driving this shift, adding that more work is needed to sustain the momentum and ensure African sounds remain dominant internationally.

The development comes as the singer continues to expand his global footprint.

He is set to headline major international events, including his debut performance at Coachella 2026, where he will stand as the only African act on the lineup.
