Less than 48 hours after social media critic VeryDarkMan slammed Nigerian celebrities for not contributing meaningfully to the lives of Nigerian youths, Afrobeat star Davido has sparked fresh controversy with the unveiling of his latest luxury jewelry piece, a custom ‘5ive’ pendant reportedly worth $780,000.
The massive pendant, said to be one of the biggest chains in the world, was delivered by renowned jeweler Benny from New York.
Photos and videos of the dazzling piece have since gone viral, igniting mixed reactions across social media.
While some fans hailed the DMW boss for his taste and success, others questioned the timing of the display especially coming shortly after VeryDarkMan’s viral video accusing Nigerian celebrities of doing little beyond flaunting wealth.
Davido has not responded directly to the criticism, but the high-profile delivery of the extravagant pendant is already fueling debates about influence, and responsibility in Nigeria’s celebrity culture.
