Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, on Sunday commissioned a newly constructed female hostel named after his late mother, Dr. Veronica Adeleke, at Clifford University, Abia State.
The event, which took place during the university’s 6th Convocation Ceremony, saw Davido not only unveil the Veronica Adeleke Hostel but also deliver the commencement speech to the graduating class.
In a heartfelt message shared on his official X handle (@davido), the singer reflected on his mother’s legacy, describing her as a teacher and philanthropist who believed in the power of education and compassion.
“My mother, Dr. Veronica Adeleke, was a teacher and a giver who believed that education and compassion could change lives. This building is a continuation of her purpose — turning love into legacy,” Davido wrote.
He urged the graduates to lead with purpose and use their talents to create a positive impact, noting that true greatness lies not in fame or numbers but in the lives one touches.
“When I looked into their faces, I saw the same fire that built me — that hunger to be seen, to make something out of nothing, to turn pain into power. Talent might open the door, but purpose gives it meaning,” he said.
Davido was accompanied by his close friend, Cubana Chief Priest, who pledged to pay the school fees of 50 students in celebration of the occasion.
The Vice-Chancellor of Clifford University, Professor Chimezie Omeonu, commended Davido for his contributions to education and for inspiring young Africans to pursue excellence.
