David Hundeyin Disassociates from @PIDOMNIGERIA Twitter Handle Amidst Ongoing Police Investigation

Investigative journalist David Hundeyin has publicly disassociated himself from the @PIDOMNIGERIA Twitter handle, following his recent declaration as a suspect in a criminal conspiracy case.

Hundeyin, known for his fearless investigative work, took to his X platform (formerly Twitter) to clarify his current standing with the handle, stating, “FYI: I am no longer in control of the @PIDOMNIGERIA handle. The password and security details are under new custody.”

This statement comes amidst a broader investigation by the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Center (NPF-NCCC), which recently apprehended an Anonymous hacker linked to a series of seditious activities and the unauthorized dissemination of classified documents.

The suspect, Bristol Isaac Tamunobifiri, was arrested at a hotel in Port Harcourt on Saturday, August 5, 2024, after a dramatic standoff where he attempted to destroy evidence by smashing and flushing his phone.

According to a press release issued by the Nigeria Police Force on September 3, 2024, Tamunobifiri is allegedly involved in leaking sensitive documents, including directives from the Office of the Inspector-General of Police and other restricted data, potentially compromising national security.

The investigation, which traced the origin of the leaks to the @PIDOMNIGERIA handle, also named Michael Temidayo Alade and David Hundeyin as suspects in the conspiracy.

The @PIDOMNIGERIA handle had previously been active in disseminating information on sensitive national issues, raising questions about its management and the motivations behind the leaks. Hundeyin’s recent declaration that he no longer controls the handle indicates a significant shift in the ongoing investigation, which has already resulted in Tamunobifiri’s court appearance and subsequent remand in prison custody.

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has emphasized the Force’s commitment to national security, pledging to take decisive action against individuals or groups undermining Nigeria’s stability. He assured the public that the investigation would continue to uncover all aspects of the conspiracy.
