The recently concluded Rye Street Cycling Championship in Ikorodu has not only provided thrilling sporting action but also drawn attention to a significant community issue: the poor condition of roads.

As part of the event’s mission, the organizer, Olamilekan Aliu Dada, aims to raise awareness about the deteriorating state of streets in Ikorodu, which has long plagued residents.

Dada, who has successfully hosted the cycling competition across four communities in Ikorodu, emphasized the importance of good roads for the well-being of the community, especially for the younger generation.

“If the roads are good, the youth can ride their bicycles better, and residents’ vehicles will last longer,” he explained.

The Rye Street Cycling Championship was specifically designed to promote healthy living through sport, but the poor state of the roads has often made cycling challenging. Dada believes that repairing the roads would encourage more youth to take up cycling, benefiting both their health and the community at large.

Local residents who attended the event echoed these sentiments. However, the push for road repairs is gaining momentum as Dada continues to engage local sponsors, community leaders, and residents in his efforts.

He hopes that with consistent advocacy and potential support from the government, the road conditions in Ikorodu will improve, making future editions of the championship safer and more accessible.

For now, the Rye Street Cycling Championship remains a beacon of hope in Ikorodu, promoting fitness and unity while addressing one of the community’s most pressing issues.
