Reigning world champion, Tobi Amusan has again gained glory for Nigeria after winning the 100m women hurdles final at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.
Amusan not only claimed the country’s 10th gold medal, but also set a new Commonwealth Games record of 12.30 seconds, on Sunday morning.
She becomes a two-time Commonwealth Games champion, after she successfully defended her title in an impressive style.
It would be recalled that the history-making athlete secured Nigeria’s first gold at the 2022 World Athletics Championship held in Oregon, United States.
The 25-year-old etched her name in the history books after she set a new world record in the women’s 100 meters hurdles, finishing in 12.12 seconds in the semi-finals. She crowned her impressive outing with 12.06secs in the finals, but her feat wasn’t recognised as a world record due to strong wind pressure of 2.5 metres per second.
