The enforcement of a dusk-to-dawn curfew has begun in Obiaruku, headquarters of Ukwuani Local Government Area of Delta State.
The curfew was as a result of the rising cult clashes in the area.
This was contained in a statement by the Secretary to Ukwuani Local Government, Mr Chukwunedum Dafikpaku, on behalf of the council chairman, Mr Possible Ajede.
The local government scribe explained that the curfew commenced on Sunday night, adding it will start each day from 6am to 8pm, until there is an improvement in the current situation.
Residents of the council area, especially owners and operators of public places and establishments were advised to fully comply with the directive.
All security agencies, particularly the police were also directed to enforce the curfew strictly, ensuring that there’s no movement of people, motorcycles or vehicles during the curfew hours.
A public notice issued by the local government on this imposition of the curfew reads in part, “It is hereby announced for the information of the general public, particularly the people of Ukwuani Local Government Area, that as a result of the rising tension in Obiaruku due to cultists clash that has taken two (2) lives within the last 24 hours; the Executive Chairman has imposed a dusk-till-dawn curfew in Obiaruku, the administrative headquarters of Ukwuani Local Government Area from 8pm to 6am daily with effect from Sunday, 26th September, 2021 till further notice.”
