Celebrity barman, Pascal Okechukwu, popularly known as Cubana Chief Priest, and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have agreed to settle the ongoing naira abuse case out of court.

This development was revealed during the resumed sitting of the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, on Thursday, May 2, 2024. Cubana Chief Priest’s lawyer, Chikaosolu Ojukwu, SAN, informed the court of his client’s intention to enter a plea bargain with the EFCC.

“In the interest of justice, we are urging the court to strike out the motion because the prosecution has not responded to it,” Ojukwu said”.

The EFCC prosecutor did not oppose the withdrawal of the preliminary objection, and Justice Kehinde Ogundare struck out the application and adjourned the case till June 5, 2024, for a report on the settlement.

In a statement, the EFCC said: “We are committed to ensuring that the rule of law is upheld and the Naira is respected as our national currency. We are open to exploring out-of-court settlements that serve the best interest of justice and the nation.”
