COVID19: Lagos To Instruct BRT Buses To Carry 47 Passengers – Gboyega Akosile

As part of the proactive measures to curtail the spread of the novel coronavirus, the Lagos State Government said it will instruct Primero Transport Services Ltd, the company employed by the State Government to manage the blue Bus Rapid Transport (BRT) to limit its passengers to 47 available seats on the bus.

In a series of tweets, Gboyega Akosile, the Chief Press Secretary to Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, moments ago tries to enlighten Lagosians on some of the precautionary measures put in place by the state to stop the spread of the virus.

In one of the tweets, he stated that in order to ensure residents obey the social distancing directive given by the state Governor, law enforcement officers have been drafted to ensure compliance.

“to ensure that residents obey the directives, law enforcement agencies have been directed to enforce compliance with the directive against any assemblage of a large number of people at any location. #CoronaVirusUpdate”

However, a Twitter user @swagee questioned the CPS on the issue of overcrowding on the government managed BRT buses run by Primero.

“but how far @PrimeroTSL BRT buses nkor?….”, he wrote.

Responding to the tweet, Akosile said BRT buses will be instructed to limit their passengers to only the 47 seats on the bus.

“Brt buses will be instructed to limit their passengers to just the 47 sitting to avoid overcrowding, ” he wrote in his response to the tweet.
