COVID-19 : NCDC confirms 288 new cases, as Ogun extends lockdown by one week

The Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC), Friday, confirmed 288 new cases of COVID-19 in the country, Blackboxnigeria learnt.

The newly confirmed cases now brings the national tally to 5445.

The Centre for Disease Control, while making the disclosure via its Twitter handle, wrote

“288 new cases of COVID-19.

“179-Lagos, 20-Kaduna, 15-Katsina,15-Jigawa, 13-Borno, 11-Ogun, 8-Kano, 7-FCT,4-Niger, 4-Ekiti, 3-Oyo, 3-Delta, 3-Bauchi, 2-Kwara, 1-Edo State.

“5445 cases of COVID-19 in Nigeria

“Discharged: 1320. Deaths: 171.”

Subsequently, The Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, Friday, announced the extension of COVID-19 lockdown in the state for another one week till Sunday.

The governor, who made the disclosure while addressing newsmen at the Governor’s Office, Oke Mosan, Abeokuta, said non-compliance with the safety regulations and the community spread of the virus as reasons for extending the sit-at-home order.

“Consequently, in view of the evidence of community transmission and poor compliance with the lockdown measures, we are constrained to extend the lockdown for another week till Sunday, May 24.

“The current pattern of lockdown, with relaxation windows from 7am to 5pm on Monday, Wednesday and Friday continue.

“We will continue to monitor the level of compliance with the lockdown measures and incidence of community transmission and hopefully, there will be positive developments that will enable us to further ease the lockdown at the end of this new lockdown period.” governor Dapo said.
