In a surprising development, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has reported more than 500 COVID-19 infections, for the first time in weeks.
There has been a noticeable decline in the number of recorded cases in the preceding weeks.
The NCDC, on Thursday night, confirmed 709 new cases of COVID-19 in 20 states and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, bringing the total number of confirmed infections in the country to 157,671.
The health agency made the confirmation via an update on its official website.
It also recorded 12 new deaths in the last 24 hours, as total fatality now stands at 1,951. So far, 136,335 cases have been discharged.

The 708 new cases are reported from – Adamawa (180), Lagos (141), Ondo (60), Anambra (54), Rivers (41), Taraba (33), Edo (30), Abia (22), Kaduna (22), FCT (21), Akwa Ibom (20), Kano (20), Plateau (11), Ekiti (10), Kebbi (10), Nasarawa (10), Bayelsa (7), Ogun (5), Osun (5), Oyo (5), and Gombe (1).
