Court Orders Triple DNA Tests Abroad to Finally Settle Mohbad Son’s Paternity Dispute

An Ikorodu High Court has directed that three DNA tests be carried out in foreign laboratories to conclusively determine whether Liam is the biological son of the late Nigerian singer Mohbad, in a move aimed at ending a long-running family dispute that has delayed the late artist’s burial.

The ruling comes as tensions remain high between Joseph Aloba, the father of Mohbad whose real name is Ilerioluwa Aloba, and the singer’s widow, Wunmi, over the paternity of their two-year-old son.

At the resumed hearing, the court ordered that three separate, internationally accredited laboratories: two in the United Kingdom and one in the United States to conduct independent tissue-based DNA analyses.

Each side will nominate one facility, while the third will be selected by the court to ensure neutrality.

All DNA sampling will be carried out under the supervision of welfare officers, and representatives from both parties must be present during the collection to guarantee transparency.

The court also emphasised that all three results must align before a final legal conclusion can be made.

The matter has been adjourned until 7 April 2026, when representatives are expected to report on progress with sample collection and testing arrangements.

Earlier attempts at DNA testing stalled due to concerns over laboratory credibility, prompting Mohbad’s father to push for tests in foreign centres trusted for international forensic standards.

His lawyer, Barrister Oladayo Ogungbe, said the approach was the best way to eliminate doubts and psychological manipulation claims that have clouded the case.

Mr Aloba has also insisted that his son’s remains should not be reburied until the paternity issue is resolved, a stance that has kept Mohbad’s body in the morgue nearly three years after his death in September 2023.

The corpse was exhumed in 2023 for an autopsy but has not been laid to rest since.

The saga has captured wide public attention, with friends and colleagues of Mohbad, such as singer Primeboy, appealing for the late star’s burial to proceed.
