A Chief Magistrate Court in Abuja has granted the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) authority to detain Sijibomi Ogundele, CEO of Sujimoto Luxury Construction Limited, as investigations proceed into allegations of contract fraud involving N5.762 billion from the Enugu State Government.

The case centers on an agreement to build 22 Smart Green Schools for Enugu State, for which Ogundele reportedly collected 50 percent of the total contract value, but failed to execute the project fully.

According to government filings, the contract was to be completed within six months starting February 2025, but several schools remain unfinished and some are allegedly still at the foundation stage.

Ogundele was declared wanted by the EFCC on September 5 after failing to honour multiple summonses, but later turned himself in.

Court documents and Enugu State’s petition allege that despite formal invitations to engage in dialogue, Ogundele ignored such requests, even though joint inspections by EFCC operatives and the state’s Ministry of Works found that there was “minimal to no significant work” across most project sites as of May 2025.

Under the recent order from the magistrate’s court, Ogundele will remain in EFCC custody until a full investigation is concluded.
