Coronavirus: FG seals panda supermarket in Abuja

The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has sealed a Chinese owneed supermarket called Panda supermarket Jabi in Abuja.

The supermarket was seald following inspection carried out on the complex.

FCCPC had gotten reports that Panda supermarket had a concealed area where seafood and animals imported illegally from China were discretely sold to only Chinese nationals despite clamour against doing so because the fast spreading coronavirus.

Condemning the actions of Panda Supermarket, the DG of FCCPC, Babatunde Irukera via his Twitter handle, wrote,
“Selling frozen imported seafood, other animals like frogs&snakes under suspicious conditions with no packaging raises serious concerns, especially when origin is China COS of Coronavirus. Discriminating against Nigerian Nationals in access to display is also wrong, so we acted ”

At the moment over 300,000 Chinese are already infected with Coronavirus, so it is necessary that government and its agencies take precautionary steps to ensure the virus does not enter Nigeria.
