Conjoined Israeli twins separated after 12-hour surgery

The medics of Soroka Medical Center, Be’er Sheva in Israel, have separated conjoined twins also known as Siamese twins.

The girls, like every other Siamese twins, were joined from birth but these ones were joined at the head which made the separation a rare occurrence.

Separation of twins joined at the head is very critical and such successful operation is said to be no more than 20 all over the world.

The surgery lasted 12 hours and involved cranial reconstruction and scalp grafts following months of planning by experts both in Israel and abroad.

Although the names of the girls have not been revealed, video footages have surfaced of the girls lying in their cots with bandages around their heads.
