What was supposed to be a regular sensitization on genotype compabitility has caused a drama in a Nigerian church after the facilitator — a medical doctor — made a shocking revelation to one of the congregration members.
A sports analyst, Ibukun Aluko shared the rather hilarious story on his verified Twitter page on Sunday.
According to him, his church dumped the usual unscientific preachings and invited a medical doctor to give a talk on genotype that morning.
During the programme, a male congregration member inquired why his daughter’s genotype is SS (sickle cell carrier), though himself and his wife carry AA and SS genotypes respectively.
To the shock of everyone present, the doctor simply replied that the man isn’t the biological father of the girl in question.
“I love the way my church focused invited a doctor to come and talk on Genotype today instead of the usual preaching.
“One member asked why he’s AA and his wife is AS and their daughter is SS. Doctor said the daughter isn’t his own, church don scatter like this,” Aluko wrote.

Like flies to dung, netizens have ventured to the comment section to share their thoughts on the matter. While some applauded the doctor for being honest particularly in the House of God, others believe he could have given a more diplomatic response — citing the possibility of lab errors that might have surfaced in the earlier genotype tests conducted on the man and his family.
Genotype compabitility has been a recurring issue in most Nigerian families, considering the increasing number of persons living with sickle cell disorder in the country.
