Tensions are rising within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos following the postponement of the councillorship primary election scheduled to hold on May 10, 2025 in Ward D of the Otto-Awori Local Council Development Area (LCDA).
A formal complaint submitted to the Lagos State APC Primary Election Electoral Committee by Ward Apex Leader, Chief Waidi Rahmon, and aspirant Abel Olutoye Felix, has decried the sudden decision to halt the electoral process without prior notice or explanation.
According to the petition addressed to the chairman of the electoral committee, all delegates, including party leaders and stakeholders, were present at the venue early Saturday morning, ready for the election.
Among those in attendance was the Lagos State Commissioner for Local Government, Rural Development and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Bolaji Kayode Robert, who had earlier assured party members of a smooth and transparent process.
However, to the surprise of aspirants and delegates, the election was called off without any official statement detailing the reasons.
“The election was suddenly declared postponed by the Commissioner without adequate explanation or prior notice,” the letter reads.
“This last-minute decision not only undermined the efforts of all those who prepared for the election but also raised serious concerns about transparency.”
The letter also noted that the postponement has left aspirants and constituents in a state of confusion and uncertainty about their political representation.
It calls on the Lagos APC Electoral Committee to urgently clarify the reason for the postponement and announce a new date for the primary.
Party members are now urging swift action from the electoral committee to avoid further disenfranchisement and restore confidence in the party’s internal democratic processes.
The letter was also copied to key party stakeholders including the Lagos APC Chairman, Pastor C. O. Ojelabi; LAHA member representing Ojo II, Hon. Tijani Surajudeen Olatunji; and several other prominent figures within the party.
