Commission Lacks Power To Retire Us- National Assembly Clerk, Rejects Retirement Notice

The Clerk of the National Assembly, Alhaji Mohammed Sani-Omolori on Thursday rejects the retirement notice issued by the National Assembly Service Commission.

The CNA revealed that the NASC lacks the power to review the retirement age of staff of the Commission as he argued that the Revised Conditions of Service puts the retirement age of workers at 40 years of service or 65 years of age, whichever comes first. He also added that the condition was duly passed by the two chambers of the 8th National Assembly.

The NASC had on Wednesday issued a statement in which it announced that all persons that have clocked 35 years in service or is 60 years of age should leave and wait for retirement letters. The statement was issued after its 497th meeting held in Abuja and was signed by the Executive Chairman of the Commission, Ahmed Kadi Amshi.

Reacting to the new development by the Commission, Omolori in a counter statement directed all affected workers to ignore the Commission’s statement as he said it has no power to take such a decision because the resolution of the 8th Assembly has not been rescinded nor abdicated.
