Clergyman Stabbed to Death Over Domestic Dispute Settling in Osun
Bishop Shina Olaribigbe, the pastor of Rapture Empowerment International Church in Osogbo, Osun State, was tragically stabbed to death early Thursday morning while attempting to mediate a violent domestic dispute between a couple.
Details surrounding the couple remain scarce, but sources indicate that the wife, a member of Olaribigbe’s church and an interpreter at BCGA Area, had a history of ongoing quarrels with her husband.
Despite living apart for some time, the couple was not officially divorced, and the bishop had been a consistent mediator in their troubled relationship.
The cause of the latest altercation is unclear, but the situation escalated when the husband arrived at his wife’s home in the early hours of Thursday. Upon discovering Bishop Olaribigbe in the room, his anger reportedly erupted, leading to a deadly confrontation.
According to the information gathered by BlackBox Nigeria, a church source, who requested anonymity, told PUNCH Correspondent, “The husband, fueled by suspicion and rage, grabbed a knife and stabbed the bishop in the chest. The pastor died on the spot.” It was revealed that the bishop had gone to visit the wife, who had been unwell, when the tragic attack occurred.
Following the brutal incident, both the husband and wife were arrested and taken into custody at the Dugbe Police Division in Osogbo. The remains of Bishop Olaribigbe were deposited at the UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital morgue as authorities launched a full investigation.
Yemisi Opalola, the Public Relations Officer for the Osun State Police Command confirmed the incident and explained that the couple had not legally separated despite their frequent conflicts.
She added, “The pastor was at the wife’s house when the estranged husband arrived and stabbed him multiple times, acting on suspicion that the pastor was involved with his wife.”
