Chidimma Adetshina Makes History as First Nigerian to Become Miss Universe 1st Runner-Up

Chidimma Adetshina has made history as the first Nigerian to secure the position of 1st runner-up at the Miss Universe pageant.

The Taraba State representative achieved this at the 2024 competition held on Sunday, November 17, in Mexico.

Victoria Kjaer Theilvig of Denmark won the crown, while Adetshina was named the runner-up ahead of María Fernanda Beltran of Mexico, Suchata Chuangsri of Thailand, and Ileana Márquez of Venezuela.

Adetshina earned her spot on the global stage after being crowned Miss Universe Nigeria 2024 at Eko Hotels & Suites in Lagos, where she competed against 24 other contestants.

Her participation in the pageant drew attention following controversies linked to her background.

Born in South Africa to a Nigerian father and a Mozambican mother, she faced allegations from South Africa’s Home Affairs Ministry accusing her mother of fraud and identity theft.

These claims ignited debates about her eligibility and prompted national discussions regarding identity and representation.
