Dangote Sugar Refinery Plc has issued a stern warning to its staff, prohibiting the chewing of company-owned sugar cane within its factory premises, describing the act as gross misconduct.
In a circular dated April 7, 2026, and signed by the Head of Human Resources, Ikechukwu Okorie, the company cautioned all employees that engaging in the practice could lead to summary disciplinary actions.
The directive, addressed to all staff, emphasized that the sugar cane is a valuable company asset and must not be tampered with.
According to the memo, indiscriminate chewing of sugar cane and improper disposal of its chaff have contributed to environmental degradation within the facility and disrupted housekeeping standards.
The company stressed that, as a player in the food industry, maintaining strict hygiene and cleanliness is non-negotiable, adding that littering of chewed cane remnants is strictly prohibited.
The management further disclosed that its security apparatus has been placed on red alert, with instructions to apprehend anyone found violating the directive.
Offenders, the company warned, will face disciplinary measures and possible prosecution aimed at recovering losses associated with the misuse of company property.
The circular concluded with a strong admonition to staff, describing the notice as a “final warning” against the practice.
