Cameroon will be looking to secure their spot in the last 16 of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations when they take on Gambia in their final Group C match on Tuesday.
The country needs a win to guarantee it’s qualification, as it currently has one point from two games.
Cameroon’s hopes were boosted by the late drama in Group B, where Ghana drew 1-1 with Mali and Zimbabwe beat Egypt 2-1.
This means that the third-placed team in Group B has only two points, while the third-placed team in Group A has three points. If Cameroon win against Gambia, they will have four points and will be superior to both of them, regardless of the other results.
The Indomitable Lions will be confident of getting the three points, as they have a strong record against Gambia, winning four and drawing one of their previous five meetings.
They also have the tournament’s top scorers in Vincent Aboubakar and Karl Toko Ekambi, who have six and five goals respectively.
However, Gambia will not be an easy opponent, as they have shown resilience and determination in their debut appearance at the continental showpiece.
The Scorpions have drawn both of their games so far, holding Mali to a goalless stalemate and coming back from two goals down to level with Senegal.
They still have a slim chance of advancing to the knockout stage, if they beat Cameroon and hope for favourable results in the other groups.
Cameroon will be eager to please their home fans and avoid an early exit, while Gambia will be hoping to continue their fairy tale run and make history. The match will kick off at 17:00 GMT at the Stade Ahmadou Ahidjo in Yaounde.
