Burna Boy wins big at Soundcity MVP Awards

Unarguably the biggest music act of 2018, Damini Ogulu better known as Burna Boy shun like a star that he truly is last night as he carted home four coveted awards at the Soundcity MVP beating other top contenders.

Despite being absent, Burna Boy won the ‘Listeners Choice Award’, ‘Song of the Year’, ‘Best Male Act’ and the biggest award of the night, ‘African Artist of the Year’. As expected monster track, ‘Ye’ fetched him the honours.
The controversial music act was represented on the night by his former label boss, Piriye Isokrari of Aristocrat Records and his mum, Bose Ogulu who disclosed that Oluwaburna as he also calls himself was out of the country.
Other winners of the night are Teniola who was crowned the ‘Best New Act’, Davido ‘Best Pop Artiste’, Dj Neptune ‘African DJ of the Year’, Patoranking, Video of the Year (Heal the world), AKA ‘Best African Hiphop Artiste’, Clarence Peters ‘Award for innovation in Creative Arts’, Wizkid ‘Best Collaboration’ (Soco), Busiswa ‘Best Female MVP’, Mr Eazi ‘Digital Artiste of the Year’ and Wande Coal ‘Viewers Choice’ (So Mi So).
Nigeria’s star player at last year’s FIFA World Cup, Ahmed Musa for ‘Excellence in Sports’.
There were also top performances from Jidenna, Davido, Teniola, Niniola, Patoranking, Chinko Ekun and Phyno.
The event held at the Eko Convention Centre of the Eko Hotel and Suites, Lagos.
