There was palpable tension at the national secretariat of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abuja as heavy security presence was witnessed at the place on Monday.
According to reports, this development appears to be connected with widely reported removal of the Chairman of the ruling party’s Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC), Mai Mala Buni, the governor of Yobe State.
It was gathered that the dramatic move followed the orders of President Muhammadu Buhari who is currently out of the country for medical checkup in London, United Kingdom.
TVC News reported that Niger State governor, Abubakar Sanni-Bello had arrived the APC national secretariat to resume as the chairman of the caretaker committee in the interim, as the party prepares for its zonal congresses billed to hold on March 26.
This comes hours after the Buni-led CECPC, through its secretary, Senator John James Akpanudoedehe denied the development, describing the reports as fake news.
“Our attention has been drawn to sponsored media reports on an imaginary leadership change in the All Progressives Congress (APC) Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC).
“The media report is fake news and should be disregarded. The APC is a progressive political party guided by rules. Leadership changes are not announced by ‘sources’ through name dropping in the media,” he said in a statement.
