Buhari’s Continuous Absence, What Is The Role Of NASS

The common joke on the lips of every Nigerians right now is the number One Ghost-Worker, President-in-absential, Muhammadu Buhari who since he returned to the country (he left for London on January 19th and returned March 10th, 2017) has not been physically active as the nation’s leader.

One of the topmost roles of the Nigeria’s President is the overseeing of the weekly Federal Executive Council meeting, which usually holds every Wednesday inside the Aso Rock Presidential Villa, but Buhari for the past months have been missing in action at as the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo now plays oversight functions on the President’s behalf.

It is no longer news that the health of the President Buhari is not in good shape and needs plenty of ‘rest’ as this was even confirmed last week by Information and Culture Minister, Alhaji Lai Mohammed when he informed members of the Executive Council the wish of the ailing President to start working from his official residence in the Villa.

All these scenarios have drawn Nigerians to ask a million dollar questions: WHERE IS OUR PRESIDENT and WHEN IS PRESIDENT BUHARI RESUMING?

Amidst the agitation to know the true state of health of the current President who unseated ex-President, Dr Goodluck Ebele Jonathan (2015 General Elections) has brought about questioning of the roles of the legislature, the National Assembly.

Some Nigerians are of the opinion that if the lawmakers are upright about their duties, it is about time the 8th Assembly jointly summon President Buhari to come address the nation by stating his health status to teeming Nigerians who voted for him during the last general elections.

Without playing to the gallery, a summon by the National Assembly means the lawmakers are concerned about the yearnings of the common man who is worried about the ailing president.

Will the National Assembly ever summon President Muhammadu Buhari to come state his Health Status?
