The burial of former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari, who passed away on Sunday, July 13, 2025, in London, has been officially postponed to Tuesday, July 15, according to Governor Dikko Umaru Radda of Katsina State.

Speaking with journalists on Monday morning at the Umaru Musa Yaradua International Airport in Katsina, Governor Radda disclosed that after consultations with the family and associates of the late president, it was agreed that his body would be flown into Katsina by noon on Tuesday and laid to rest in Daura, his hometown, at 2 p.m.

“The burial arrangement for our father, who died yesterday in London—we have made consultations with the family and people around him in London,” Radda stated.

“We have concluded that the body will arrive Katsina by noon and the burial will take place in Daura at about 2 p.m.”

Governor Radda described Buhari as a father figure whose life was marked by integrity, discipline, and national service, offering condolences to the family on behalf of the people and government of Katsina State.

Preparations for the burial are already underway in Daura, with security significantly heightened in the area.

Several state governors, traditional rulers, past leaders, and foreign dignitaries are expected to be in attendance.

Earlier reports indicated that a presidential delegation had arrived in London on Monday morning to arrange for the repatriation of the former president’s remains back to Nigeria.

Buhari, Nigeria’s military ruler from 1983 to 1985 and later a democratically elected president from 2015 to 2023, is widely remembered for his anti-corruption campaign.

His death has triggered a wave of mourning across the country, especially in the northern region where he was deeply revered.

The final rites scheduled for Tuesday are expected to attract a large national audience and be closely watched both locally and internationally.
