Buhari swears in Ariwoola as acting CJN

President Muhammadu Buhari has sworn in Justice Olukayode Ariwoola as the acting Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN).

Ariwoola, who is the highest ranking officer of the Supreme Court, took the oath of office at a swearing-in ceremony which took place on Monday at the Council Chamber of the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

The acting CJN replaces Tanko Muhammad, who resigned earlier on Monday on grounds of ill health.

Tanko’s resignation comes a week after fourteen justices of the apex court accused him of abandoning his responsibility as the leader of the court citing alleged diversion of funds, poor working conditions and welfare, among other issues. The Bauchi State-born CJN, however, denied the allegations.
