Hours after news broke out that the Kuje Prisons in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja was attacked, President Muhammadu Buhari has visited the scene.
BlackBox Nigeria had reported that Boko Haram terrorists on Tuesday night detonated explosives on the facility, and free hundreds of inmates.
Shuaib Belgore, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, confirmed the development to journalists on Wednesday morning.
He disclosed that about 600 inmates escaped from the prison, but that security operatives have been able to recaptured 300 so far.
Report has it that Buhari, who is billed to attend a World Bank summit in Dakar, Senegal, arrived the scene of the attack on Wednesday afternoon.
The president will depart Nigeria immediately after touring the ill-fated facility.
