Buhari Hosts South East Stakeholders, Speaks On Marginalisation
President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday met with leadership of the South East Region. The delegates were led by Senator Ike Ekweremadu, Deputy Senate President.
The meeting which was held inside the Presidential villa had in attendance lawmakers and political appointees from the geopolitical zone in attendance.
President Buhari used the moment to speak on alleged marginalisation of the zone in his appointments. He disclosed that while the region has four substantive ministerial posts, seven Northern States, including his home State got Ministers of State positions.
He also revealed that the administration will keep to it’s campaign promises on major projects in the zone.
He said, “I thank the delegation for articulating their demands and requests, and I promise that my administration will continue to serve every part of Nigeria.
“I want the Southeast to be rest assured that we will deliver all the critical infrastructure projects we promised. Projects like the 2nd Niger Bridge, East-West Road and the Coastal Rail project, which will positively impact the region, are a big priority for us.
“I gave the Southeast four substantive Ministers — Foreign Affairs, Trade and Investment, Science and Technology, and Labour. I cannot take any decision on foreign policy and investments without the input of Ministers from the region. Seven states in the North on the other hand, including my home State of Katsina, got Ministers of State.
“My government will work honestly and faithfully with every region of Nigeria, for the good of all. We will not let down.”
