British Parliament suspends lawmaker for watching porn during plenary

A member of the British Parliament, Neil Parish has been suspended for allegedly watching porn in the House of Commons chamber.

According to reports, two female colleagues complained after claiming to have seen the Conservative MP looking at adult content while sitting near them.

Parish remains under suspension pending the outcome of an investigation by the Commons Standards Committee led Kathryn Stone.

An inquiry has been launched after he referred himself for investigation. The British lawmaker, however, has refused to resign as an MP or as head of the environment select committee until the inquiry concludes.

If found guilty of violating the code of conduct for MPs, possible punishments for Parish range from apologising to the Commons to suspension or expulsion.

Speaking with the BBC on Friday, the embattled MP said he would co-operate fully with the inquiry and would await the outcome before commenting.

“Of course it’s embarrassing,” the 65-year-old said. “And it’s embarrassing for my wife and family, and so that’s my main concern at the moment. have a very supportive wife and I thank her for that.”

When asked whether he actually opened something on his phone by mistake, Parish said: “I did, but let the inquiry look at that.”

Parish has served as the Member of Parliament for Tiverton and Honiton in Devon, South-West England since May 2010. He has served as chair of the House of Commons Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Committee since 2015.

The MP also said he would resign if “found guilty” by the inquiry, saying he understood the upset he might have caused.
