Nigerian musician, Olarenwaju Fasasi popularly known as Sound Sultan has died.
The 44-year-old was diagnosed with throat cancer, and had been undergoing chemotherapy in a hospital in the United States of America.
His demise was announced in a statement by his family on Sunday.
He died following a hard-fought battle with Angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma, a rare form of non-Hodgkin lymphoma, which is a group of related cancers that affect the lymphatic system.
Recall that in May, it was widely reported that the versatile artist was diagnosed with throat cancer and undergoing medical treatment in the United States of America.
But the musician denied the report in an Instagram post.
The singer’s elder brother Baba Dee, who confirmed his illness, also debunked the report of cancer.
“He is sick and he is getting better in New York. But throat cancer. Na lie,” he said.
Sound Sultan, whose career in show business started in the 90s, died two months later.
He is survived by his wife, three children and his siblings.
