According to The Cable, the building is located along Gerard Road in Ikoyi.

Reportedly, eyewitnesses claim several people were trapped inside the building.

As of this moment, no reports of casualties from the site of the collapse has been made.

In a related development, The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA)said it has activated its emergency response plan to salvage the situation.

Director-General of LASEMA, Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, said, ” All first responders are enroute to secure the scene while the heavy duty equipment and life detection equipment have been dispatched.”

Recall that recently, the Lagos State Government launched a rebranded certificate of completion and fitness to limit the frequency of building collapse incidents in Lagos.

However, the objective of the certificate is to safeguard the lives of residents and address the main causes of building collapse incidents.

Meanwhile, following the launch, the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) was empowered with the responsibility of issuing the certificate to all existing and new buildings.

Also, recall that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, once linked previous incidents of collapsed buildings in the state to low compliance to physical planning laws.
