The family of Nigeria’s celebrated live band icon, Akinloye Tofowomo, popularly known as Akiin Shuga, has announced his passing in New Brunswick, Canada.
In an official statement released on the Instagram page of Shuga Band, the family described his death as an immeasurable loss, while expressing total submission to the will of God.
Akinloye Tofowomo was the Grandmaster and Managing Director of Shuga Entertainment and Shuga Limb Foundation. Over the years, he became a household name in Nigeria’s live music scene, known for his unmatched stage presence, mentorship, and dedication to cultural performance.
“Akinloye Tofowomo was more than a musician, he was a custodian of rhythm, culture, and the spirit of performance. Across more than three decades of excellence, on stage and in mentorship, he redefined what it meant to lead a band with grace, mastery, and purpose.” the statement read
The family also requested privacy as they come to terms with the loss, noting that further details regarding memorial arrangements would be announced later.
They extended appreciation to everyone who has reached out with prayers and tributes, assuring that Akinloye Tofowomo’s legacy will continue to live on through Shuga Band and Shuga Entertainment.
He is survived by his wife, children, siblings, and mother.
