The explosions were said to have occurred around Molai, Dambo’a road, Bulumkutu and Njimtilo road axis. Report has it that gunfire and explosions were also heard from other parts of Maiduguri metropolis.

Nigerian troops have reportedly restored calm, according to Ahmad Salkida, a journalist known to have the knowledge, to a large extent, on the workings of the different factions of Boko Haram in Nigeria’s northeast.

“The situation seems to have been contained by the Nigerian troops. Hopefully people will be assured to go out and cast their votes,” he said.

The ill-fated incident is coming on a day Nigerians are heading to the polls to elect a new president and their representatives at the National Assembly.

Recall that the government via President’s Buhari address yesterday had promised that security apparatus have been put in place to ensure the safety of the electorate.
